Circulation Policies

Valid photo ID must be presented at checkout prior to ALL loans. RVC student and staff ID cards, driver's license, and state IDs are all examples of acceptable photo ID.

Lending is available to all RVC students and staff and to any residents of Illinois Community College District #511 that choose to sign up for a library card.

Loan renewals may be done online over the RVC Catalog, over the phone, or in person at the RVC Library.

Reserves Collection Loaning periods for reserves material are set by the instructor and may vary. Loan periods for individual items may be found on the item's front label. Material in the reserves collection are subject to late fees.

Fines and Fees

Late Fees

  • The Estelle M. Black Library does not assess late fees for standard book loans. Audio-visual (A/V), reference, and interlibrary loan material may still accrue late fees.
  • The Estelle M. Black Library can only accept payment in cash or check.
  • A/V Materials: Students and Community Patrons are subject to $0.50/day late fees.
  • Reserves: Students will be charged $1.25/day for overdue daily loans, and $0.25/hour for overdue hourly loans for a maximum of $5.00.
  • Interlibrary Loans: Fines are assessed by the lending library.

Lost/Damaged Items

  • Items that have been lost are subject to the replacement cost of the item as listed in Alma. Items reach lost status after 30 days overdue.
  • Lost/Damaged Jewel Case Replacement: $2.00
  • Replacement stickers on Jewel Case: $1.00  
  • Lost or damaged interlibrary loan (ILL) item: Replacement cost charged by owning library.

Food For Fines

  • Library late fees may be waived in exchange for a donation to the Rock Valley College Eagle's Nest Pantry. For each food item donated, the library will waive $2.00 from your debt. For example, a $20.00 debt would be waived in exchange for a donation of ten food items.
  • In order to be accepted, all donations must be unopened, non-perishable, and within expiration date.
